Fashion house Givenchy presented their Spring Summer 2023 Menswear Collection, bringing modern looks through the looking glass of savoir-faire during the ongoing Paris Fashion Week.

For his first Givenchy ready-to-wear men’s show, designer Matthew M. Williams identified the archetypical garments and accessories that made up an authentic wardrobe and amplified them through the artisanal and technological possibilities of Parisian craftsmanship. Matthew M. Williams also found inspiration amongst his inner circle for this Spring-Summer 2023 collection.

The collection explored the brand’s codes and dress codes of the past and reimagined them in a new and contemporary way. Williams was also inspired by the men amongst his inner circle. With the collection, Williams explored the societal uniforms of America through the refined elegance of the brand.

Although this runway show was characterized by a purely neutral and monochromatic palette, there were also occasional pops of colour and bold prints in mint green and camouflage.

As regards accessories, models wore the Givenchy’s speciality G-Cut eyewear, chain link necklaces, bracelets, and ski masks. The French fashion house also revealed unique textiles on the runway. Givenchy crafted its tactical vests and cargo pants from a digitally printed waterproof fabric. Fitting for the moat-style runway.

Unveiling the collection, Williams said:

“Menswear was, quite naturally, the way I discovered fashion. In my practice at Givenchy, my men’s collections came from an instinctive starting point. This show is a reflection of myself and the men who surround me, from my close friends to the artists who inspired my work. It’s a dialogue with the time and culture that shape the way men dress today and tomorrow: the way new generations embrace and evolve the archetypes and dress codes of the past through their own progressive outlook. It’s a thrilling evolution and the reason I have chosen this moment to stage a stand-alone men’s show for Givenchy.”

A new tailoring silhouette emerged in black and grey blazers. While, coats expanded but relaxed in volume. They awere worn with matching trousers ripped at the knee to reveal their logo-adorned lining in the style of the DIY alterations of a uniformed schoolboy. A blouson and cargo short in tan and beige leather were patchworked from undyed offcuts upcycled from Maison’s leather factory and laminated for a rigid structure.

Classic shell jackets in mint green and black were constructed in super lightweight leather. Evoking a military surplus sensibility, leather varsity jackets were adorned with logo embroidery all over and included a motif identical to the tarot card leg tattoo carried by Williams.

Another highlight of the collection was the footwear, which included the recently announced TK MX sneakers.

Featuring a mesh and synthetic leather upper, the style came in a range of colourways, from subtle white or black to bold designs in silver and yellow, silver and green, and black and yellow. The collection also updated the TK-360 silhouette with the new TK-360-MID, which featured a taller construction and a monochromatic colourway
