The Fashion Awards 2022, presented by Diet Coke, was held at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall. These awards are given by the British Fashion Council and have been honoring the best of the fashion industry since 1984, also known as “the Oscars of fashion”. London hosted the event for models, designers, singers, and even some who came to witness this year’s award ceremony. Among the list of VIP guests, we could see names of royals like Amelia Windsor, Olympia of Greece, or Lady Di’s nieces, Amelia and Eliza Spencer. In addition, actresses like Florence Pugh or Iris Law and renowned models such as Naomi Campbell, Irina Shayk, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Ashley Graham, and Elsa Hosk. There were also designers and some of the most prestigious it-girls and fashion consultants in the industry, such as the British Alexa Chung.
The British actress and model, Jodie Turner-Smith, was the host of this edition and the one in charge of entertaining the celebrities gathered in the theatre. The actress captivated us with her amazing outfits, both on and off the red carpet! She had some wardrobe changes for the ceremony including a Gucci piece, designs by Richard Quinn, Robert Wun, and 16Arlington.
In recognition of an international designer whose innovative collections have had a remarkable impact on the industry and shaped the global fashion landscape, Pierpaolo Piccioli won the Designer of the Year award for Valentino, beating out Miuccia Prada and Matthieu Blazy for Bottega Veneta. The model of the year award was contested by Adut Akech, Lila Moss, Paloma Elsesser, Quannah Chasinghorse, and Bella Hadid, and it was the latter model who was the winner of this edition.
The event once again brought together the best-known faces in the industry, and a true fashion handbook was on display in front of the cameras. Many of this year’s most mentioned trends reaffirmed their presence, such as opera gloves or ‘vamp’ style dresses. We also saw silver ensembles, white dresses that went beyond the classic bridal style, strapless dresses with plunging necklines and slits, and, of course, one of the most talked-about fashion trends of recent times: chiffon capes. Florence Pugh chose to wear a red Valentino design. The actress was in charge of presenting the award for designer of the year and giving a nod to the winner. On the other hand, the British singer Rita Ora stole glances and gave much to talk about thanks to her daring transparent dress by Nensi Dojaka.
