Luxury Italian brand Fendi debuted its Resort 2023 at New York Fashion Week, taking collaboration to new heights for the 25th anniversary of the iconic Fendi Baguette. The Italian fashion brand turned to the city where the Baguette’s fate was sealed as a forever “It-Bag” to celebrate history and popular culture. Taking place at the historic Hammerstein Ballroom located in Manhattan, the collection was presented in a usual ambience and fitted with light-coloured carpet, bright spotlights, and an expansive mirror that reflected the image of a crowd eagerly awaiting the show.

Besides, worldwide known brands Marc Jacobs, Tiffany & Co., SJP and Porter joined forces with Fendi for the current Resort 2023 collection to innovatively reinterpret the Baguette. Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Womenswear, Fendi in a press release stated, “I didn’t want to do a traditional ‘collection’ for the anniversary. Rather it’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous. I relate that time to a sense of freedom in excess and fun – both qualities the Baguette possesses,”.

The collection itself featured a total of 54 looks, including parkas, gloves, hats, skirts and sweaters combining silk satin, glossy leather and sequins fabrics. Marc Jacobs designed 10 looks of the 54, embodying larger-than-life silhouettes and exaggerated dimensions. Jacobs chimed in on Jones’ sentiment, stating: “I’ve got one word: Fendiroma. And it is one word! It is another land, this Fendiroma… And I’ve got two words: The Baguette. It’s a bag – and I am never one to shy away from an iconic bag.

From parachute train skirts, opera capes and recycled fur hats, accessories and clothing came in muted white hues paired with bright neons inspired by safety vests from New York City streets.

“Always practical, always glamorous, forever iconic. #FendiBaguette celebrates its 25th anniversary.” Posted the brand in its official Instagram account.

Tiffany & Co. was in charge of reinvention of the Baguette bag in a regal format with sterling silver, enamel, Croco, white gold and diamonds. The creativity and glamorous style of Tiffany & Co. were seen in the Baguette bag, which was made entirely from sterling silver and was crafted by hand over four months. Last but not least, Japanese brand Porter proposed a more masculine perspective and lightweight turn for the Baguette in a next-gen display of utility and function.

Celebrities at the front row

Celebrities Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, Grace Jones, Winnie Harlow, Adwoa Aboah, Chloe Bailey and Euphoria‘s Maude Apatow were among the star-studded front row. With anniversaries come heritage, but the collection showcase was far from traditional.
